13 Years of Marriage

For our 13th Wedding Anniversary we tried out a new restaurant-Husk. If there is one thing I love about my husband it is that he loves to try new things with me. The food was great. There was a garden outside the restaurant, and we dined by the window overlooking the garden where the vegetables and flowers for the restaurant were grown. There was a wall of tiny pear trees along the parking lot. It accomplishes a complete Earthy feel- A true from farm to table set up. The appetizer was my favorite-The Charcuterie plate other than the company of course and the amazing Chess Pie we had for dessert! Actually of all things I enjoyed the building the most. It was such a beautiful historical building overlooking downtown Nashville. After reading 2 Kate Morton books I wanted to go back in time and see that building as a house of residence and know the story behind its history. We didn't do anything grand this year. We ate at a new funky Nashville restaurant, drove around downtown with the top down and enjoyed the mild summer air. We drove by the townhouse we lived in when we first moved to Nashville in 2011 and then the little cabin we lived in for the next 10 months in 2013 and laughed over the stories and experiences. Paul drove us to his downtown Music Row office location and introduced me to the people that worked inside. It was such a peaceful and quaint date night. We actually got home before the kids were in bed. It's hard for us to stay out too late now that we are older and tired! Loving and recommitting words were exchanged. We talked about how some don't put emphasis on anniversaries, but I do. I feel building a happy satisfying marriage is one of the hardest things to do. Just like any successful venture it is truly work. The kind of work that leaves you completely exhausted yet totally satisfied! So to me every year is another year that should be celebrated and a reminder of all the years you have experienced together, the changes, the challenges, the humor in life, the moments worth remembering. Here's to another 13 years! And another...and another and so on.
